Big Hearts, Little Hearts
Many have entertained the idea of opening their hearts and homes to children lacking loving homes (some of these children are considered at-risk youth). They never make the move because they figure that the people who actually walk-the-walk must be superhuman. But that's not true-they are very human. Cheri Paris Edwards's Plenty Good Room is a wonderful story that sheds light on this special dynamic of the extended family. There are two phenoms at work here: big hearts stumbling through the task of making a difference and little hearts ripped from their family histories through no fault of their own. Plenty Good Room is a complete package of emotions filled with vulnerability, strength, and self-examination. It's laced with mystery, humor and a budding romance.

Writer, poet and reviewer Carole McDonnell says of "Plenty Good Room"...
The book is firmly rooted in both the black middle class and the poorer class. It deals with contemporary issues and is insightful and faith-filled without being sentimental. The characters are true-to-life and the book is more of a novel about work and family than it is about love. The Christianity is apparent without being too preachy.

Reader Notes

From Naomi - a wonderful note!

Hello Ms. Edwards,

After reading your book, Plenty Good Room, I had to write and tell you how much I appreciated it. As a lover of romances, I was very pleased with the flow of this story. As a middle school teacher, I felt a great affinity for the people in charge of teaching about life and love. As a Christian, I loved the message that was given in its many forms, about God, and His love for us. I even used it to prepare worship for services. It was great, also, in helping explain the song by Nicole Mullens, Call on Jesus; that I sang for special music. Thank you so much for getting the message of Gods love and salvation, out, I was very disappointed when I turned the last page the story had ended. God bless you and may you keep on doing the will of God.
Love, Your Sister in Christ,
Naomi

Thanks to Kathy, who was in Iraq when she wrote this note to me. It makes her thoughts very special.

When I purchased your book I did not realize that it was Christ-Centered. I wasn't going to read it. Then I decided to read one chapter. If it was too much Christian stuff I would read something else. I read the entire book in one hour. Your writing and the story line were really good. I don't like Christian novels, because they don't often keep it real. Your book was real, there are young girls living in those situations every day.

What I also liked was when Tamara got saved her life did not become perfect. All of her problems were not solved in one day. When you go to the altar the pastor says your life will never be the same again. He's right but that does not mean its going to be perfect. Even with Tamara becoming saved she was still working out some issues. Christianity is a daily walk. I think your novel showed that.

Thank you and God Bless you.
